Twenty years ago, concern over the unsustainability of consumer society drove Vernon to explore voluntary simplicity. Studying indigenous cultures in the Pacific NW and Africa as well as appropriate technology have given him a good understanding of sensible community design, including passive solar, water conservation, and local diet. A published author and social activist, Vernon has lived without a car for over a decade and rode his bicycle across North America. Facilitating these workshops is the most effective way he can imagine investing his time. Based on Fellowship of Reconciliation's Creating a Culture of Peace and the work of Marshall Rosenberg, this workshop is designed to engage a community in defining the biggest problems we face, determining our role in them, visualizing solutions, and taking action to make things better. Flexible enough to adapt to any world-view, each session of the workshop will significantly change the lives of twenty people, tightening their community in the search for sustainable peace. |
